An integrated sawmill and Pellet Plant
Rainbow Pellet operates a single production facility at Kechau Tui, in Kuala Lipis, Pahang, with two production lines. Industrial wood pellets, and advanced black pellets made from empty
fruit bunches. A pellet plant needs a steady, clean supply of wood residue. A sawmill produces exactly that, continually, as a by-product of cutting timber. Building them on one site
removes the transport between them, the handling losses, and most of the traceability risk.
What arrives at the pellet plant
Sawdust, wood chips, bark and off cuts including those produced by sawmill on this site.
End-of-life rubberwood from rubber plantations that have reached the end of their latex-producing life and are being replanted.
Empty fruit bunch fiber, used as fuel in our boiler.
Advanced black pellets from empty fruit bunches.
In June 2026 we commissioned a second production line at Kechau Tui using Steam-Ex technology supplied by ANDRITZ.
The world's first commercial-scale plant to convert empty fruit bunches into advanced solid biofuel.
Empty fruit bunches are what is left after palm fruit has been stripped for oil. Steam explosion breaks the fibre down under pressure before it is densified.
The result is a pellet that resists moisture and can be used as a direct replacement for coal. The line has its own feedstock, its own process and its own storage.
CONTROLS

Weighbridge
Every delivery is weighed and recorded by stream.

Separate bays and storage
Sawmill intake, processing residues and rubberwood are handled and stored apart, as set out in the site layout.

Chain of custody
Each stream is documented under our SBP,
PEFC and Green Gold Label systems.

How we
make pellets
How we make pellets
From the arrival of raw material to the loading of finished pellets. Quality, traceability, legality and sustainability controls are applied at every stage.

01 Receipt and verification
Every delivery is weighed, identified by stream and checked against all traceability documentation before it is accepted.

02 Size reduction
Material is chipped and milled to a consistent particle size.

03 Drying
Moisture is reduced to the level required for pelletising.

04 Pelletising
The dried material is compressed through a die.
The lignin in the wood binds it.

05 Cooling
Pellets are cooled to stabilise them and harden the surface.

06 Screening
Fines are separated out and returned to the process.

07 Storage
Finished pellets are stored in the silo, separated from all raw material handling.

08 Shipment
Pellets are loaded and transported by road to storage at West Port, Klang, for export.
No chemical binders are added at any point in production.
